\nWhy can’t I hear Your voice? Why can’t I see
\nYour mirror or the shining of Your face?
\nO Lord, why can’t I smell the slightest trace
\nOf incense that would heal the atrophy
\nOf life, and counteract the blasphemy
\nOf death, our deaths? Where is the hiding place
\nIn which You hide? And where is Your embrace,
\nBeyond a metaphor or simile?<\/p>\n

I’m desperate, God \u2014 as if I wore a hat,
\nBut had no head; as if I wore a shoe,
\nBut had no feet; as if I wore a glove,
\nBut had no hands; as if the world were flat;
\nAs if the lies inside my mind were true;
