  1. It\u2019s a jungle out there<\/em>.The images in the psalm are powerful ones, taken from the animal kingdom. The snake (verses 5-6), and lions (7) represent strength, and the snail (9) – vulnerability.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. What\u2019s so bad<\/em>? Are there different sorts of evil in the psalm? And is the judicial system the heart of the problem, or just a part of it. Either way, it is clear that the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment, and that those in charge of justice use their power for ill.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Snakes and charmers.<\/em> There\u2019s a connection between the world of snakes – and magic, or witchcraft. In Egypt, there were necromancers, that were able to change staffs into snakes and back again (Ex. 7), and apparently magicians like this also had spells against snakes. When these fail – the snake is even more dangerous. That\u2019s the snake in verse 6, like the snacks in Jeremiah\u2019s prophecy, \u201cLo, I will send serpents against you, Adders that cannot be charmed, And they shall bite you \u2014declares the LORD\u201d (Jer. 8:17).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
