How could I refuse my father\u2019s command? How could I turn my back on my ailing brother? Little did I suspect\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I prepared a meal but he would not eat. His talk was smoother than butter, more soothing than oil, but when we were alone, he drew his \u201csword.\u201d Horrified, I refused. Despite my protestations, he forced himself upon me. And when his urge was satisfied, he discarded me like trash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Body and spirit broken, I rent my garment and wept. Our father did nothing though he claimed to be distressed. My brother Absalom told me told me not to brood, but how can I remain silent? (see 2 Samuel 13)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When men will not hear my sorrow, will You God give ear and not ignore my plea? My kin have wickedly oppressed me, and my heart is convulsed within me. Terrified and trembling, I fear for my life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Would that I had the wings of a dove to fly away. Could I find rest, far off in the wilderness?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God who created the world by speech, confound the speech of those would silence me, who do not wish to hear of the lawlessness and strife in the city. Day and night, malice and rape culture, fraud and deceit never leave its square.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a stranger, an enemy had done this evil to me, would my father \u2013 who has more earthly power than any man \u2013 have defended me? But no, he has broken the pact of paternal care, taken my devotion and defiled it. Not only is my virginity despoiled, but also the sweetness of our fellowship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unable to raise a hand against him, I cry to you O God, who hears the cry of the orphan, for indeed I am forlorn like an orphan. May my tormentors go down alive into Sheol! When no one will hear me, I call to God. Evening, morning, and noon, I complain and moan. Hear my voice, and deliver me from my murderous, treacherous brother. May he not live out half his days.
