  1. Who\u2019s a jolly brave fellow<\/em>? The evil hero of verse 3 – \u201cWhy do you boast of your evil, brave fellow?\u201d – and also \u201ca fellow who did not make God his refuge,\u201d (verse 9) are examples of \u201cbrave\u201d men who are failures. The psalmist, in contrast, is \u201clike a thriving olive tree in God\u2019s house,\u201d i.e., a real hero.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Thriving olive tree (verse 10<\/em>). The comparison of a righteous person to a flourishing tree is an image we have already met, and even here in Psalms, 51 chapters ago, \u201cHe is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, whose foliage never fades, and whatever it produces thrives\u201d (Ps. 1). But here the metaphor is of a specific tree, the olive tree. If you know the tree, and its uses, then you\u2019ll understand why. 76 chapters hence we will encounter the image a whole grove (Psalm 128).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. There\u2019s an audience<\/em>. There is an audience for the salvation, and even for the psalm itself. \u201cI praise You forever, for You have acted; I declare that Your name is good in the presence of Your faithful ones.\u201d Who are the faithful ones? Are they the believers in every time and place? Or did the psalmist have a specific community in mind? Good question.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
