Who are God\u2019s devotees? The medieval exegetes offered widely divergent opinions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rashi identified them with \u201cthe exiles\u201d (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ha-galuyot<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) whose ancestors accepted the Torah and its commandments at Sinai through a covenant and sacrifice. Ibn Ezra said they are, simply, pious Jews who have\u2014individually\u2014made a covenant with God in which they promised to offer Him sacrifices. Radak, who apparently saw an apocalyptic connection, wrote:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He spoke to Gog of Magog to return Israel to Jerusalem. These are His devotees and covenanters with whom He had made a covenant at Sinai where they offered sacrifices and had the blood of the [circumcision] covenant sprinkled on them [see Exodus 24:8]. There is also a homily (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d\u2019rash<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) that it refers to the ongoing Jewish practice of circumcision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malbim seemed to have punctuated the verse differently, reading it as:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You, My devotees, bring before Me those who have made a covenant with Me over sacrifice; those who imagine that by means of the sacrifices they offer they have made a pact with Me lest I harm them, and that by their means I shall love them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He then saw their denouement in the next verse:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then the heavens proclaimed His righteousness, for He is a God who judges\u201d (6), explaining: \u201cAlthough on earth they erroneously think that God desires thousands of sacrifices, in heaven, where there is neither eating nor drinking, they will pronounce His righteousness in this matter for He will take up the
