Out of all the incredible museums Jerusalem has to offer, this one has a special place in my heart.\u00a0 The museum&#8217;s focus is the First Temple period, the time when most of the Tanach took place. The friendly museum curators guide you through the museum, showing items discovered in archaeology that correspond to passages in the Tanach.\u00a0 The tour climaxes with an impressive First Temple period model of Jerusalem, and a film about an artist, struggling in his attempts to draw a picture of Jerusalem. The film concludes with (spoiler alert) the artist&#8217;s realization that he is not capable of capturing Jerusalem&#8217;s full magnitude on an easel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, in psalm 48, the descendants of Korah attempt to describe the greatness of Jerusalem. They too were not able to portray Jerusalem&#8217;s magnificence merely with a single description of the city. So they wrote the psalm in two sections, each one describing a different aspect of Jerusalem. Each description is exactly fifty three words in length, demonstrating the equal importance of each section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first section of the psalm focuses on Jerusalem from the perception of the nations. For them, the city represents God&#8217;s holiness. It is a city that causes people to praise God. Its beauty befits the dwellings of a king. Its high walls demonstrate the protection God provides for his people. Mortal kings who see the city are seized with an uncontrollable trembling, similar to a woman giving birth, or to ships smashed into the water by the storm. These kings testify &#8220;The reports we heard about Jerusalem are true.\u00a0 We attest that they are exactly what we personally beheld. Jerusalem is truly the city of the God of Hosts!&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second section of the psalm is an insider&#8217;s view of the city. After citing a prayer of the people, requesting that Jerusalem should forever continue displaying God&#8217;s affection towards his people, this section exhibits the close relationship the people of Israel have with Jerusalem.\u00a0 The people are now inside the city, circling its walls, counting its towers, and climbing through its palaces. We are granted access to the people&#8217;s thoughts and hopes, as they stand in the Temple. The psalm praises God&#8217;s attributes- kindness, righteousness, and justice- that emanate from the city. The section finishes with an imperative to Israel to continue nurturing our rapport with the city, which will grant us the ability to convey the unique bond we have with Jerusalem to future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psalm 48 has withstood the sands of time. Throughout the ages, the concept of Jerusalem has inspired-and challenged- the world at large. As for the Jewish People, our loving connection to Jerusalem has never faltered. We face Jerusalem in prayer, remember Jerusalem at joyous occasions, mourn for Jerusalem, and hope for the return of her glory.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps
