Psalm 47:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nSons of Korach–Korach rebelled against his cousins Moses and Aaron and challenged their authority. Korach and his cohorts perished in the aftermath of the rebellion, yet his sons, who repented, survived.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Enthronement–This psalm extols God\u2019s royal role in the universe.
\nPsalm of Praise–This is a psalm of celebration, often the result of a victory. It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nThis psalm describes the great rejoicing of the Jewish people following their deliverance, and speaks of the establishment of the Kingdom of God that will ensue.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of ten verses, subdivided into three parts. The first verse serves as a heading.
\nIn verses 2-5, the psalmists turn to all the nations of the world, and invite them to come and raise their voices in praise to God.
\nIn verses 6-8, they describe the moment that God ascends His throne, accompanied by Shofar blasts and songs of praise.
\nIn verses 9 & 10, they proudly proclaim God\u2019s kingship and declare that all the nations have gathered together to accept His sovereignty.<\/p>\n

\nMizmor<\/em>–Musical Accompaniment<\/p>\n

Technical Terminology:<\/em>
\nSelah<\/em>–While its meaning is unclear, the most familiar opinion is that it is a musical notation, instructing the Levitical orchestra to pause its singing and playing of instruments. Alternatively, \u201cSelah\u201d may mean \u201ceverlasting\u201d.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/em>
\nTo be accepted by others and find favor in their eyes (say 7 times)–Verse 5 states: \u201cHe chose for us our inheritance, the pride of Jacob whom He loves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interesting Fact:<\/em>
\nVerse 2 is written proof that people would originally clap their hands when singing Psalms.<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nRecited on Rosh HaShana as part of the introduction to the blowing of the Shofar.<\/p>\n

Biblical Personalities:<\/em>
\nAbraham–together with his wife Sarah–the first person to proactively spread the idea of monotheism throughout the world, as well as the first to enter into a covenant with God. It is for this reason that he was chosen as the first of our forefathers, and Sarah as the first of our foremothers. Today, Abraham is considered to be the founder of the world\u2019s three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In fact, this is alluded to in the name Abraham. When God changes his name from Abram to Abraham, by the addition of the letter \u201chei<\/em>\u201d, God tells him that he has now made him an “Av hamon goyim”<\/em>—\u201dfather of many nations\u201d.
\nYaakov<\/em>–Jacob, also called Yisrael<\/em>, Israel–the third patriarch, known as the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was married to Rachel and Leah, and was the twin brother of Eisav. <\/p>\n
