Mozart, \u201cGod Is Our Refuge,\u201d K. 20 (1765).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The uniqueness of this short motet is that it was written by a child of nine. Little Mozart wrote it with the help of his father, Leopold, during a family visit to London, as part of a concert tour of the Mozart family in Europe. The manuscript of the score was donated by the father to the British Museum, who received the gift in recognition of the amazing talent of the wunderkind. The manuscript itself is particularly interesting also because that part of it was written by the father, and part by Mozart the child, and the childlike nature of the script is apparent in the text.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The work is written for four voices and is based on the English metered paraphrase for 46:2. In this short composition, Mozart experimented for the first time with fugal choral writing, and apparently based the music on a prayer hymn known in England at the time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Austrian city of Salzburg, Mozart\u2019s hometown, was a church city, and as he grew, Mozart was to have a growing contribution there to liturgical music, which we will have occasion to bring to this site in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Madrigal `God Is Our Refuge` For Choir 1765 Kv 20<\/span><\/p>\n","image":false,"embedded_video":"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FXP9hnENmSQ","video_duration":"","show_fb_comments":true,"credit_media":""},"tile":{"top_caption":"The Psalms In Classical Music","main_caption":"The Work Of A Nine Year-Old Child","main_caption_size":"1","sub_caption":"A new series - this time: W.
