  1. Who is in the background?<\/em> There are those who connect this psalm to the miraculous salvation from the siege of Sennecharib in 701 BCE. The rescue of the city of God from the hands of the enemy \u201cby daybreak God will come to its aid\u201d (6), and perhaps even a veiled reference to Hezekiah\u2019s water engineering of the Shiloah tunnel, \u201cThere is a river whose streams gladden God\u2019s city\u201d (5). It\u2019s worth going back to that story, in 2 Kings 18-19, or Is. 36-39.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Global disarmament<\/em>. The destruction of weapons on the way to world peace (verse 10) sounds like Isaiah\u2019s prophecy (also from the time of Hezekiah and Sennecharib): \u201cAnd they shall beat their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks\u201d (Isa. 2:4).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Cease and desist<\/em>. That\u2019s what verse 11 says: \u201cDesist! Realize that I am God!
