Psalm 46:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nSons of Korach–Korach rebelled against his cousins Moses and Aaron, and challenged their authority. Korah and his cohorts perished in the aftermath of the rebellion, yet his sons, who repented, survived.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nThe sons of Korach wrote this psalm about the coming of the Messiah and salvation of Israel in the end of days.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Communal Confidence–In this psalm, the community expresses absolute certainty that their prayers will be heard.
\nPsalm of Praise–This is a psalm of celebration, often the result of a victory. It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.
\nPsalm of Zion–This psalm glorifies God\u2019s city and His holy mount in which He has placed His abode.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nWhile some of the psalm composed by the sons of Korach spoke prophetically of exile and redemption, this psalm speaks of redemption and the pangs of the messianic age and the war launched by Gog and Magog–a precursor to the messianic era.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of twelve verses, subdivided into two parts. The first verse serves as a heading. Each of the two parts is followed by the refrain, \u201cAdonoy of Hosts is with us, a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob, The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob, Selah.\u201d (verses 8 and 12).
\nIn verses 2-7, the psalmists describes the effects of, and God\u2019s involvement in, an earthquake.
\nIn verses 9-11, they describe how God ceases wars.<\/p>\n

Musical Instrument:<\/em>
\nAlamot<\/em>–An Unidentified Instrument–probably a harp.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim–When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor a man who hates his wife–Verse 10 states: \u201cHe causes wars to cease to the end of the earth.\u201d an allusion to personal wars.<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nVerse 8 (repeated as verse 12) is one of the verses of V\u2019hu Rachum<\/em>, one of the paragraphs comprising Pesukei Dezimra<\/em> (introductory Verses of Praise to the Shacharit morning service).
\nVerse 8 is also found in Uva Letzion<\/em>–one of the closing prayers of Shacharit.<\/p>\n
