When I think of the Sovereign of the World, I am in wonder and in awe. I try to understand this feeling, to put it into words. But the essence of the Divine is ineffable. So I ask why I am here, at this moment in time, while unprecedented things are happening all around me. What is my purpose?<\/span><\/p>\n

I feel like I was put on an airplane, with a bunch of other people. The flight is a lot longer than anyone ever anticipated, but none of us can get off the plane. We are hurtling through the air and told that we have to be patient. We can walk around and stretch our legs, and look out the windows. The views are shades of swirling sky; warm grays and blues. We don\u2019t know if it is day or night, summer or winter. The season is simply pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people are kind to me, and some are not; the way people usually behave towards a single person. They take a break from couplehood or family-time to enjoy my company. I’m a good listener, they tell me. Then they go back to their travel companions. I return to my reading. Time passes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll glorious is the Princess within the palace,\u201d the psalm tells me. I think of a swan, a symbol of peaceful contentedness. She has outer beauty and inner calm; Or maybe she contains inner beauty within her outer calm. I think that a lone swan is a lonely swan. A swan can live alone, if she must, but she is happiest with a partner.<\/span><\/p>\n

A partner is all I\u2019ve ever longed for\u2013 and now I beseech You, HaShem, to please make it happen. You yourself said that it is not good for people to be alone. And You made sure each animal entered Noah\u2019s Ark with its mate. So wherever mine is, please help me to meet him: help us to meet each other.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m done flying solo.<\/span><\/p>\n

This airplane, like all others, will reach its destination eventually. We’ll be able to move around, more than only up and down these aisles. At least I hope that’s what will happen. But sometimes, I wonder if maybe my plane is about to crash and tumble through the clouds into the deep blue sea. Please \u2013 no.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh God, I still believe. I know there is more than these thorns I\u2019m presently noticing. Not long from now, there will be roses. There will be so many roses! I could let myself get lost in the vision of those roses\u2013 fragrant violet, bright scarlet. I breathe them in. I close my eyes. Thank you for the roses. Thank you for keeping me sheltered in place on this holy plane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I inhale a deep breath, I exhale slowly. I\u2019m so grateful to be your
