Psalm 43 has no author. There is no musical notation, nor a reference to the poet. As we saw in Psalm 42, King David did not write all of Psalms. This leads some commentators to conclude that this psalm is actually a continuation of the previous psalm written by the sons of Korah.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, 43 psalms into the book, we can put our detective hats on and try to figure out ourselves!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One clue is in language usage. Are there words or phrases that we have seen before that could help us? Immediately in verse one we have a clue: “Judge me oh God <\/span>plead my cause [riva et rivi]<\/span><\/em>.” <\/span><\/i>This phrase is almost identical to Psalm 35. This points to the same author- King David.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Next we can look at metaphors. Verse 3 talks about bringing me to your holy mountain and to your dwelling place, [<\/span>mishknotecha<\/span><\/em>].\u00a0 Ostensibly this refers to the Temple Mount and the tabernacle. That would seem to fit with King David as well. At that time of his kingship, he was in possession of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, but only the tabernacle existed at that time, not the Temple. It seems, therefore, that King David is the author of this psalm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But could it be the sons of Korah? Perhaps King David, in Psalm 35, borrowed their use of <\/span>riv rivi<\/em> <\/span>centuries earlier, with it only appearing in Psalm 43? Also, the holy mountain could be a reference to Mt. Sinai, the holy mountain in the wilderness. And during the wilderness period it was also the tabernacle that was the center of ritual life. Read this chapter again and make a determination for yourself… who is the author?<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":83251,"id":83251,"title":"ps43-fingerprint
