He addresses his words to God but feels distant from God, at a painful remove from the Temple and plagued by enemies. The \u201cI\u201d here is the intensive form of the first-person pronoun, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nafshi<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, abundantly used in this psalm, and translated in the next verse as \u201cmy whole being\u201d (but not in this verse, to avoid what might sound like an awkward repetition in the English). The verb renders as \u201cyearns\u201d <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><\/i><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018arag<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) appears only twice in the biblical corpus, so the exact meaning is not certain.
