  1. What\u2019s really hurting?<\/em> As in other psalms, we learn that the biggest difficulty is not the physical pain (in this case, illness, while there were other causes of suffering in other psalms), but dealing with the rejoicing of enemies at his travails, and the abandonment of those close to him.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Breaking bread<\/em>. A shared meal is an expression of closeness, even perhaps of a covenant or treaty. Like the meal of Jacob and Laban when they made a covenant 577 chapters ago (Gen. 31), like eating the bread of the Gibeonites on the occasion of the covenant with them 412 chapters ago (Joshua 9). Whoever eats a meal of covenant is \u201cMy ally in whom I trusted, even he who shares my bread,\u201d and it is his betrayal that is the most painful (verse 10).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. A book\/end<\/em>. Verse 14 – \u201cBlessed is the LORD, God of Israel, from eternity to eternity. Amen and Amen\u201d – is not part of the psalm. It is the closing line of the first book of Psalms (out of five). At the conclusion of three of the other books – at psalms 72, 89, 106, a similar verse is found.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
