According to our psalmist, the wicked wither and fade away like grass (2), while the righteous are enjoined to \u201ctrust in the LORD and do good, abide in the land and remain loyal\u201d (3). Malbim identified in our chapter eight benefits that derive from this trust.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. \u201cDo good\u201d\u2014along with your trust, you will do good, unlike the evildoers. A condition of success is to know that your deeds are good and worthy of success.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The evildoers must cross rivers and oceans to seek their success, while you \u201cabide in the land\u201d and still prosper.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. People without trust are always fearful lest they lack sustenance. They are constantly storing up yet getting no pleasure from it, while you who \u201cremain loyal\u201d are like sheep in a pasture who trust that the hills will always yield pasture and grass.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. \u201cSeek the favor of the Lord\u201d (4). Your pleasure will be a spiritual one, unlike the evildoers whose souls are sad and far from finding solace.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The evildoers will never fill their desires; if they have one lot\u2014they will desire two. But the one who trusts in God, \u201cHe will grant you the desires of your heart\u201d (4).<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. One without trust is unaware of the ways and means to provide for himself, so he must try many options. But you will \u201cleave all to the Lord\u201d (5) and rely on Him, for He will prepare the way for your success.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Evildoers operate in the dark because they are ashamed of their evil deeds. But God will \u201ccause your vindication to shine forth like the light\u201d (6).<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Evildoers fear the magistrates who would exact justice from them, but you who trust in God, the \u201cjustice of your case [will shine] like the noonday sun\u201d (6).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
