Psalm 37:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nKing David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Wisdom-This psalm contains teachings and wise advice and is meant to instruct people on how to live a Godly life.
\nAcrostic-A literary composition in which the writer has used the letters of the Hebrew alphabet in their order as the initial letters for a sequence of verses.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nIn this psalm, King David admonishes the Jewish people not to be impressed and discouraged by the capacity and success of evildoers. Their very success, he espouses, is, in the end, to their detriment.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of forty verses, subdivided into five sections. The verses are arranged, for the most part, in the order of the Hebrew alphabet.
\nIn verses 1-11, The Psalmist teaches us that we should trust in God, for He will destroy the wicked, while the righteous will be rewarded with blessings and peace.
\nIn verses 12-17, he expands upon this idea and declares that the righteous are saved from the sword of the wicked.
\nIn verses 18-29, he speaks of the righteous man, who is saved from famine.
\nIn verses 30-33, he further describes how the righteous man is saved from false charges.
\nVerses 34-40 serve as a conclusion, whereupon King David admonishes his people to put their trust in God and to take refuge in Him.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor one who is drunk–Verse 33 states: \u201cAdonoy will not leave him in his hand, nor will He condemn him when he is judged.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nVerse 21 is found in Pirkei Avot: Ethics of the Fathers, 2:14.
\nVerse 25 is found in the final paragraph of Birkat HaMazon (Grace after Meals).<\/p>\n

Talmud on Tehillim:<\/em>
\nVerse 4: \u201cTrust in Adonoy\u201d..
\nThe Talmud, Shabbat 118b, learns from this verse that \u201call who express their true joy in Shabbat are granted their hearts\u2019 desires.\u201d
\nVerse 11: \u201cAnd the humble will inherit the land, and they will delight themselves in the abundance of peace.\u201d
\nThe Talmud, Sukkah 29b, deduces from this verse that those who publicly display their wealth, thereby arousing jealousy and anger in others, will in turn lose their riches.
\nVerse 32: \u201cThe wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to slay him.\u201d
\nThe Talmud, Sukkah 52b, teaches that the evil inclination attempts daily to convince people to sin; without God\u2019s assistance, one would not be able to withstand its pressure. (See the Talmud, Kiddushin 30b, for further elaboration on this concept.)<\/p>\n
