  1. Fear is not the opposite of lovingkindness<\/em>. The psalm deals with the psychological basis of the behavior of the wicked, and the faith of the righteous. The wicked \u201chas no sense of the dread of God,\u201d but the righteous has much more than fear of punishment. He has a belief in his faithfulness and lovingkindness, and he chooses to cling to that.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The biggest<\/em>. And everywhere. That\u2019s the meaning of the landscape depiction in verse 7 – from the tallest to the deepest – \u201cYour beneficence is like the high mountains; Your justice like the great deep.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The enemy within<\/em>: pride. The psalmist apparently has no connection to the wicked, because their starting point regarding life and God is completely different. Despite that, he still fears that something, either internal or external, will affect him and set him on the slippery slope to evil.\u00a0 \u201cLet not the foot of the arrogant tread on me, or the hand of the wicked drive me away\u201d (verse 12).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Is everything internal<\/em>? Perhaps the whole conflict between the righteous and the wicked takes place within the soul of the psalmist? That\u2019s what Malbim suggests, in light of verse 2; try reading the psalm that way.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
