Not only did Avimelech drive him away, but also David left. Why add that David left? One straightforward answer is that the turn of phrase matches the verse in Samuel. I Samuel 13-6 discusses David acting insane and the king sending him away. The next verse, Chapter 22:1, begins by saying &#8220;and he left&#8221;. This parallels the exact wording in Psalm 34. David is linking the word used in the book of Samuel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another possibility is that King David wanted to express his independence in the situation. It was his foresight to act insane to escape from the clutches of the King of Gath, and it was his own initiative that he got up and left.
