  1. Historical heading.<\/em> The heading of the psalm connects it to the narrative told in 1 Samuel 21, about David, who feigned madness, after he was discovered by King Achish of Gat.   2. Alef-beit<\/em>. This psalm is one of the nine acrostic psalms. Follow the order of the letters to see which letter has been left out – and which one gets an encore at the end.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Exalt the LORD with me<\/em>. Verse 4: \u201cExalt the LORD with me; let us extol His name together\u201d have become the words the prayer leader sings to invite the congregation to join them in song when taking the Torah out of the Ark to be read.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Recipe for the good life<\/em>. That\u2019s what\u2019s being suggested in verses 13-15, with instructions for optimal living. What\u2019s the connection between that and the fear of God which the psalmist is trying to teach his listeners? Perhaps we need to update the definition of the fear of God from just a ritual frame to include basic human morality.
