It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chapter Summary:<\/em><br \/>\nThe singer composed this psalm on the occasion of a great victory achieved by him and his people. He proclaims that deliverance is not due to the might of the victories, but rather comes by the will of God. Some suggest that the author is allegorically referring to man\u2019s ongoing, inner struggle.<br \/>\nThis psalm consists of twenty-two verses, subdivided into three parts. <br \/>\nVerses 1-3 serve as an introduction, in which the psalmist calls for praise of God.<br \/>\nIn verses 4-19, he describes and expands upon God\u2019s praises.<br \/>\nIn verses 20-22, he concludes with his expressions of trust in God, as well as prays for His lovingkindness.<\/p>\n<p><em>Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/em><br \/>\nFor a place that suffers for distress&#8211;Verse 14 states: \u201cFrom His dwelling place, He watches intently all inhabitants of the earth.\u201d<br \/>\nFor a woman whose children pass away&#8211;Verse 19 proclaims: \u201cTo rescue their soul from death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Where in the Siddur:<\/em><br \/>\nRecited as part of <em>Pesukei Dezimra<\/em> (introductory Verses of Praise to the <em>Shacharit<\/em> morning service) of <em>Yom Tov<\/em> (Festivals), and <em>Hoshana Rabbah<\/em> (seventh day of Sukkot).<br \/>\nVerse 1 is included in <em>Shochein Ad<\/em>, an addition to <em>Pesukei Dezimra<\/em> of Shabbat and Yom Tov.<br \/>\nVerses 9-11, rearranged, comprise part of <em>Yehi Chevod<\/em>, the paragraph preceding <em>Ashrei<\/em> of <em>Pesukei Dezimra<\/em>.<br \/>\nVerses 20-22 comprise a part of <em>Pesukei Dezimra.<\/em> <br \/>\nVerse 22 is included in <em>Tachanun<\/em> (Penitential Prayer) following the Amidah of <em>Shacharit<\/em>, as well as in <em>Barauch Hashem Le\u2019olam<\/em>, one of the blessings of <em>Shema<\/em> of <em>Ma\u2019ariv<\/em>.<br \/>\nRecited by some as part of <em>Tashlich<\/em>&#8211;a prayer recited on Rosh HaShana afternoon, usually by a body of water, in which we beseech God to \u201ccast away\u201d our sins into the depths of the sea.<br \/>\nVerse 15 serves as the basis for the tenth of Maimonides\u2019 thirteen Principles of Faith.<\/p>\n<p><em>Talmud on Tehillim<\/em>:<br \/>\nVerse 5: \u201cHe loves righteousness and justice.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Talmud, Sukkah 49b, teaches: \u201cOne who does what is just and right is considered to have filled the world with kindness.\u201d<br \/>\nVerse 6: \u201cBy the word of God, the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth, all their hosts.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Talmud, Shabbat 119b, deduces from this verse that speech is considered equivalent to action, for the heavens were made simply by God\u2019s spoken word.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excerpted from <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Your Lips To God\u2019s Ears<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by Reuben Ebrahimoff available on Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":79908,"id":79908,"title":"psalms -
