  1. Confession<\/em>. Confession is key. When Maimonides outlines the stages of <\/span>teshuva<\/span><\/em>, personal repentance (<\/span>The Laws of Repentance 2:2<\/span><\/i><\/a>), confession is the climax of the process, after stopping to sin, committing not too in the future, and regret. Are these elements also present in the psalm?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Humans and animals<\/em>. Verse 9 lists two differences, in understanding and behavior. Understanding: people can learn without having to experience it for themselves. And behavior: a person can have self-control, and not need external constraints, such as the \u201csenseless horse or mule whose movement must be curbed by bit and bridle.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Wicked is not the opposite of righteous<\/em>. The psalm does not describe the righteous person, but rather, the person who confesses their sins before God. Therefore, the opposite of \u201cwicked\u201d is \u201cone who trusts in the LORD,\u201d and one who acts thus, even if they have sinned, \u201cshall be surrounded with favor\u201d (verse 10).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The song of Yom Kippur<\/em>. The Vilna Gaon decided that this was to be the psalm of the day for Yom Kippur. It\u2019s not hard to understand why.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
