So here we are, alone at last,
\nWith only loneliness
\nBetween us, roses of loneliness choking<\/p>\n

Exhausted trellises
\nOf limbs and metaphysics, the overpowering
\nFragrance of loneliness<\/p>\n

Overpowering my resistance
\nTo the slowly opening rose
\nOf your infinitely loving<\/p>\n

Indifference–you call it holiness–
\nAs you climb the tiny
\nWounded trellis<\/p>\n

Of my humanness.<\/p>\n

Verse 16 of Psalm 25 reads \u201cTurn to me, have mercy on me, for I am alone and afflicted.\u201d In it the speaker is alone and in pain and begs God to come near and be merciful, even though he believes God is never far. In this psalm the speaker is near the person they desire but feels far away and alone.<\/em> <\/p>\n
