  1. Those Canaanites!<\/em> In the writings of Ugarit (Canaanite inscriptions from the second millennium BCE that were found in the city of Ugarit, in Syria, which included also ancient poetry) there were found hymns that are reminiscent of our psalms, in their structure, ideas, and even in their vocabulary.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Perfection<\/em>. All the \u201cperfect\u201d numbers (3, 7, 10) are found in this psalm. The \u201cvoice (<\/span>kol<\/span><\/em>) of the LORD\u201d appears 7 times, \u201cAscribe (<\/span>havu<\/span><\/em>) to the LORD\u201d three times, and the name of God, ten times in the body of the psalm (verses 3-9). The additional number is 18: the name of God appears 18 times in the entire psalm (4 + 10 + 4). This number has been connected to the silent prayer, known as the <\/span>Shemonah Esreh<\/em> <\/span>(the prayer of \u201c18\u201d – blessings): \u201cWhy 18 blessings in the Prayer? \u2018Rabbi Hillel son of R\u2019 Shmuel bar Nachmani, this is to correspond to the number of times David used the phrase \u201cAscribe (<\/span>havu<\/span><\/em>) to the LORD\u201d in Psalm 29.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Those gazelles\/hinds<\/em>. Among all the landscapes and the natural wonders that respond to God\u2019s voice with trembling, the gazelles (or hinds) are unusual, both in their very presence, and in their reaction: God\u2019s voice causes them to give birth.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Kavod<\/em>! The divine beings are called to ascribe\u00a0 to God \u201cglory and strength.\u201d Their answer claims: \u201cin His temple (<\/span>heichal<\/span><\/em>) all say \u2018Glory!\u2019\u201d That is, everything and everyone in the <\/span>heichal<\/em> <\/span>tell the glory of God. But what is this <\/span>heichal<\/span><\/em>? Is it the physical temple? Is the entire world? What do you think?<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Good shabbes<\/em>! This psalm is the last of the series of psalms that open the Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat service, and one of the most festive.\u00a0
