  1. \u201cMy light and my help<\/em>.\u201d Light is clarity, order, law and justice; the opposite of darkness, which confusion, disorder and danger. The psalm opens with the clear idea that God is \u201cmy light and my help.\u201d With a great light and confidence in salvation – there is no fear.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. From 3rd to 2nd person<\/em>. The transition between the two halves of the psalm is felt also in the means of address. In the first part, the declaration, the psalmist speaks about God – in the 3rd person. In the second part, the petition, he turns directly to God, in the 2nd person. Think about how this is related to the content expressed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. One thing I ask.<\/em> Even given the confidence in a good relationship – there is progress to be made. From receiving \u201cshelter in His pavilion on an evil day,\u201d the psalmist asks for permanent closeness \u201cOne thing I ask of the LORD, only that do I seek: to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life\u201d (verse 4).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Do not (<\/span>al).<\/span><\/em> Verse 9 repeats the words \u201cdo not\u201d (in Hebrew, simply <\/span>al<\/span><\/i>), and thus expresses the deep fears of the psalmist: \u201cDo not hide Your face from me; do not thrust aside Your servant in anger; You have ever been my help. Do not forsake me, do not abandon me, O God, my deliverer.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Ps 27 in the calendar.<\/em> In many Jewish communities, it is tradition to recite this psalm every day from the beginning of the month of Elul until Yom Kippur (or Hoshana Rabba). Perhaps this is because the psalm expresses the DNA of the month of mercy and forgiveness, and the lead-up to the High
