He was the director there of the National Conservatory, and also composed then his immortal \u201cSymphony From The New World,\u201d which expresses some of the spirit of the newly awakening American musical form, as well as being charged with yearnings for his homeland, Czechoslovakia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These yearnings Dvo\u0159\u00e1k expressed even more sharply in his \u201cBiblical Songs,\u201d that were written in the wake of his father\u2019s death. Not many are aware that Dvo\u0159\u00e1k was trained as an organ player, to play in church services. Psalms and hymns were very close to his heart from childhood, as was all of Biblical literature. This song cycle is considered to be among Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s most beautiful works in the field of the art song.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The song is structured around one theme that is present for the entire length of the composition, and which symbolizes the prayer for God\u2019s mercy. The melody trends ever downwards, and it is only at the conclusion that the pray-ers lift up their heads on high to search for the object of their prayers.
