As all mountains are God\u2019s, as stipulated in the opening verse, \u201cTo the Lord belong the earth and its fullness,\u201d the psalmist may not be referring to any specific mountain. Just as: \u201cYour righteousness is like the divine mountains (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ke-harerei \u2018el<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 36:7),\u201d is a euphemism for lofty mountains, any association with God may serve as a form of hyperbole. Compare \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mar\u2019ot \u2018elohim<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in Ezekiel 1:1, which, axiomatically, cannot be visions of God\u2014who is invisible\u2014but are \u201cdivine visions,\u201d a form of hyperbole. (See Radak\u2019 commentary, there: \u201cThese were grand and awesome visions, since it is a scriptural convention to exaggerate something by associating it with God.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alternatively, utilizing the principle of synonymous parallelism, \u201cthe Lord\u2019s mountain\u201d is \u201cHis holy place,\u201d a patent reference to the site on which the Temple was built. Indeed, a perusal of Deut. 12-16 reveals no fewer than 15 uses of <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">makom<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the designation of \u201cthe place that God will choose for His name to reside therein.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Ha-makom<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also utilized as a euphemism for God, as in the traditional words of comfort: \u201cMay <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Ha-makom<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">console you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.\u201d\u00a0 However, that usage derives from a completely different source. The Midrash comments on \u201cHe [Jacob] reached the place\u201d (<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">va-yifga` ba-makom<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Gen. 28:11):\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is the Holy One, May He Be Blessed, euphemistically designated <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">makom<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Because He is the place of the world, but the world is not His place. To wit: \u201cBehold, there is a place with Me\u201d (Exodus 33:21); The Holy One is the place of the world, but the world is not His place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, every place on earth is a part of Him, but He is not limited to any single place on
