I will confess that I am not up to the challenge of discovering some heretofore unrecognized exegetical nugget of what is likely the best known and most oft-recited chapter in the Book of Psalms. And yet, since an old proverb states that \u201cIt is impossible to free oneself [from responsibility] without doing anything,\u201d I will share with you one of my favorite readings of this psalm, courtesy of <\/span>The Metrical Psalter<\/span><\/i> (1650, approved by The Church of Scotland). <\/span>The entire book was translated into rhythmic verses that are easy to sing and set to music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want. He makes me down to lie<\/span>
\n<\/span>In pastures green: he leadeth me the quiet waters by.<\/span>
\n<\/span>My soul he doth restore again; and me to walk doth make<\/span>
\n<\/span>Within the paths of righteousness, ev’n for his own name’s sake.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale, yet will I fear none ill:<\/span>
\n<\/span>For thou art with me; and thy rod and staff me comfort still.<\/span>
\n<\/span>My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes;<\/span>
\n<\/span>My head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me:<\/span>
\n<\/span>And in God’s house forevermore my dwelling-place shall be.<\/span><\/p>\n
