This use of the double name evokes the same method used by God multiple times in the book of Genesis. God calls out to Abraham during the binding of Isaac in 22:11-13: \u201cAbraham, Abraham!\u201d God also calls out \u201cJacob, Jacob!\u201d to Jacob in a dream, on his way to greet his son, Joseph in 46:1-4.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God calls to Moses this way, by the burning bush in Exodus 3:1-3, and finally, in 1 Samuel 3:1-10, God makes the double call to a young Samuel at the start of his journey to become a prophet. In each of these moments God displays his love and concern for a person who is close to him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By turning this back to God, David reminds God of his affection for David, and also David&#8217;s affection for God. In such a close relationship, God should not be forsaking David; He should be protecting him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:
