“The Lord will answer you in the day of trouble, the name of the God of Jacob will raise you on high” (Psalm 20:2).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJacob left Beer-sheva and set out towards Haran. He arrived at the Place and stopped there for the night, for the sun had set; he took one of the stones of the Place and put it under his head and lay down at the Place\u201d (Genesis 28:10-11).<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Placing his head upon the oval Stone<\/span>
\n<\/span>(The hardest pillow he has ever known),<\/span>
\n<\/span>His only blankets: wind and moonless night,<\/span>
\n<\/span>How Jacob shivers \u2014 cold, afraid, alone.<\/span><\/p>\n

But as he dreams he sees new stairs of light<\/span>
\n<\/span>That glow in countless colors, soft yet bright;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The stairs descend from stars to holy ground<\/span>
\n<\/span>As angels touch his eyes and grant him sight.<\/span><\/p>\n

And as he dreams he hears a scale of sound:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Within the Stone musicians start to pound<\/span>
\n<\/span>On sealskin drums; blow silver horns; ring bells;<\/span>
\n<\/span>Play flutes as angels dance and swirl around.<\/span><\/p>\n

And as he dreams he breathes a bridge of smells:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Out of the Stone a cloud of incense swells;<\/span>
\n<\/span>Its fragrant scents like rungs of ladders rise<\/span>
\n<\/span>As angels come to open prison cells.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Stone bequeaths vision, but not through eyes;<\/span>
\n<\/span>The Stone emits a voice that makes him wise;<\/span>
\n<\/span>Inside the egg-like Stone a Temple waits<\/span>
\n<\/span>To hatch, emerge, expand, enlarge, arise.<\/span><\/p>\n

He listens how an angel slowly grates<\/span>
\n<\/span>The Stone\u2019s external shell and liberates<\/span>
\n<\/span>Its living, throbbing core: a dazzling shrine<\/span>
\n<\/span>Where Temple priests unlock the Temple gates.<\/span><\/p>\n

From Jacob\u2019s Stone, from Jacob\u2019s dreams, will shine<\/span>
\n<\/span>The altar\u2019s flames; and prophets who divine;<\/span>
\n<\/span>And psalmists\u2019 songs; and pilgrim\u2019s meat and wine;<\/span>
