Psalm 28:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>King David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Why:
\n<\/span><\/em>David wrote this psalm as a lament of his enemies, who praised him outwardly, but hated him inwardly and plotted against him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Genre:
\n<\/span><\/em>Psalm of Individual Lament-This psalm was written from the perspective of the individual worshiper, who cries out to God in his time of need. It is characterized as an address to God involving a complaint, followed by a request and ending with an expression of trust.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:
\n<\/span><\/em>David calls upon God to hear his supplications and grant his request. He asks to be free to devote himself to the needs of the soul and to serving God, spared from those who pay no heed to the Lord.
\n<\/span>This psalm consists of nine verses, subdivided into three parts. <\/span>
\n<\/span>In verses 1 and 2, King David requests that his prayer be answered.\u00a0
\n<\/span>In verses 3-5, he delineates his request, praying not to be drawn to the behavior of the wicked, and to be protected against his enemies.\u00a0
\n<\/span>In verses 6-9, he expresses his gratitude for having his prayers answered by God.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>For peace with an enemy-The concluding verse states: \u201cDeliver Your people and bless Your inheritance, tend them and uplift them forever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:
\n<\/em>Verse 9 is the first verse of the paragraph Hoshi\u2019a et Amecha<\/em> of Pesuki Dezimra<\/em> (introductory Verses of Praise to the Shacharit morning service). This verse, because of its ten words, is often used for counting the ten men needed for a minyan, as Jewish law forbids direct, numerical counting of individuals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
