21:10 \u201cYou will make them like fiery kiln in the hour of Your wrath. The Lord will devour them in His anger, and fire will consume them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hebrew appears to say, literally, \u201cin the hour of your face,\u201d but \u201cface\u201d is something used elliptically to mean grim or hostile face, angry aspect–and that meaning makes sense here. The cantillation marks of the Masoretic text put \u201cLORD\u201d (YHWH) together syntactically with \u201cwrath\u201d (\u201cin the hour of your wrath, O LORD\u201d). That construction, however, introduces confusion by having two different referents for \u201cyou\u201d in the same sentence. It is preferable to understand YHWH as the subject of the first verb in the next clause, \u201cdevour.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
