“A psalm of David’s. O Lord, who shall dwell in Your tabernacle, and who shall abide on Your holy mountain?” (Psalm 15:1)<\/span><\/p>\n

How can I scale these upright cliffs which rise<\/span>
\n<\/span>Far steeper than the mountains of the moon?<\/span>
\n<\/span>How can I climb a mesa’s wall? As soon<\/span>
\n<\/span>As I attempt to even raise my eyes<\/span>
\n<\/span>And see how high the summit is, its size<\/span>
\n<\/span>Appalls me, Lord. If only a balloon<\/span>
\n<\/span>Could lift me \u2014 or the winds of a typhoon \u2014 <\/span>
\n<\/span>And rest me on its peak, where virtue lies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The righteous, though, ascend with wings \u2014 the wings <\/span>
\n<\/span>Of worthy deeds, compassion’s wings, but I,<\/span>
\n<\/span>I cannot fly, for burdened by my sins<\/span>
\n<\/span>I know the heaviness transgression brings<\/span>
\n<\/span>To those whose footing slips; yet still I try<\/span>
\n<\/span>Anew, as once again the climb begins.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The light shines orange here. The light shines green.<\/span>
\n<\/span>The light shines purple here. The light shines gray.<\/span>
\n<\/span>The light shines yellow as we stand to pray <\/span>
\n<\/span>in silence. Only silence. In between <\/span>
\n<\/span>the silences, we look for walls to lean <\/span>
\n<\/span>against \u2014 and for the tzaddikim, since they <\/span>
\n<\/span>could say the words of prayer we cannot say.<\/span>
\n<\/span>We look for colors that we haven’t seen.<\/span><\/p>\n

We close our eyes. The darkness brings us back <\/span>
\n<\/span>to where we were before we sought the light <\/span>
\n<\/span>we seek today. Who do we find? The few<\/span>
\n<\/span>and the many. Light!\u00a0 Light! The light shines black.<\/span>
\n<\/span>the righteous and the wise. The light shines white.<\/span>
