  1. How to speak<\/em>. The complaint in the psalm is not about improper deeds, but about speech that reflects culture. The first part of the psalm presents a picture of a culture of duplicitousness, base flattery, and self-importance, for \u201cBy our tongues we shall prevail; with lips such as ours, who can be our master?\u201d Likewise, in the second part, speech is power, and opposite lies there is the divine power if speaking the truth: \u201cThe words of the LORD are pure words, silver purged in an earthen crucible, refined sevenfold.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Words have power<\/em>. As noted, the psalm only describe speech, and not acts of evil, but still there are \u201cthe groans of the plundered poor and needy\u201d (verse 6), so it seems that the evil speech is working.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Optimist or pessimist<\/em>? Is the psalmist an optimist or a pessimist when it comes to the possibility of dealing with evil and evildoers?
