Psalm 11:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>King David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>David wrote this psalm after saving the people of the city of Ke\u2019ilah from an army of Philistines. Ke\u2019ilah was located within the tribal territory of Judeah, which obligated King David to save them from their enemies, the Philistines. (Samuel I Ch. 23, v. 1-13)<\/span><\/p>\n

Genre:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>Psalm of Individual Confidence–In this psalm, the worshiper expresses absolute certainty that his prayers will be heard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/span><\/em>
\n<\/span>King David speaks against those who pursue and humiliate him, entreating God to sanctify His name by paying them back in accordance with their deeds. He also addresses the issue of why it is that the righteous suffer, while the wicked prosper.<\/span><\/p>\n

This psalm consists of seven verses, subdivided into two parts.<\/span>
\n<\/span>In verses 1-3, King David declares his trust in the Almighty. Men advise the Psalmist to flee his home from the threat posed by the wicked. He does not heed their advice, as only God is his refuge.<\/span>
\n<\/span>In verses 4-7, he explains the principles of Divine Providence by which God examines and investigates man\u2019s deeds, and judges him accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/em>For protection against evil spirits, wicked individuals, and danger–Verse 2 states: \u201cFor behold, the wicked bend the bow, they have made ready their arrow upon the bowstring; that they may shoot in darkness, at the upright in heart.\u201d Verse 7 states: \u201cFor Adonoy is righteous, He loves righteousness the upright will behold His face.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Biblical Places:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Heichal<\/span><\/em>–Holy Temple–a term used to refer to the inner sanctuary of the Temple in Jerusalem. The <\/span>Heichal<\/em> <\/span>contained the Holy of Holies, the resting place of the <\/span>Aron HaKodesh<\/em> <\/span>(Holy Ark)*<\/span>
\n<\/span>It also housed the Menorah, Altar of Incense, and Table of the Showbread.<\/span>
\n<\/span>*The <\/span>Aron HaKodesh<\/span><\/em>, while present in the first Temple, was buried, and hence its location was not known, during the period of the second Temple. <\/span><\/p>\n
