  1. For the leader, on the gittith<\/em>. The word \u201cgittith<\/em>\u201d too joins the lists of psalmic musical terminology. Is it an instrument? A type of song – perhaps of the sort that were sung in treading grapes in the winepress (<\/span>gat<\/span><\/em>)? Commentators have additional suggestions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. From the mouths of infants and sucklings.<\/em> Even before the greatness of God the Creator, and before the power of the human ruler, the psalm opens with babies, and declares that they are the source of strength: \u201cFrom the mouths of infants and sucklings You have founded strength on account of Your foes, to put an end to enemy and avenger\u201d (verse 3). Why is this the source of strength? How is this connected to the wonders of creation and human consciousness? Worth thinking about.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Creation in the background.<\/em> The psalm relates to Genesis 1: the earth and the heavens and all their hosts, and the human in the position of ruler.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. A work of art<\/em>. The heavens and all they contain are the work of God\u2019s hands. Imagine the delicate brushwork; the sculpting of the shining heavenly materials. How beautiful! How majestic! (did we say that already?).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Proportions<\/em>. God – human – world. The psalms sets the proportions between them, and suggests two models, with a huge human, and a tiny one. Depends on what you\u2019re comparing us to.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
