  1. Shiggaion<\/em>. No, this isn\u2019t a mistake (<\/span>mishgeh<\/span><\/em>)<\/span><\/i>. This is apparently a musical term that those who played and sung the psalms were familiar with (but see Moshe Sokolow\u2019s post today on this term).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Cush, a Benjaminite.<\/em> Who was Cush, and what are the events that might be relevant to the background of this psalm? From David\u2019s CV that appears in the book of Samuel, there is a Cush, who was the one to give David the tragic news of the death of his son Absalom (2 Sam 18:21). There are also David\u2019s opponents from the tribe of Benjamin, such as Saul who is \u201ca Benjaminite.\u201d To which, if either of these, did the heading of the psalm refer? Commentators suggest answers – you can too.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Sense of innocence<\/em>. The psalmist is sure of his innocence. So much so that he demands a trial. Not mercy. Note the contrast with the request of the previous psalm: \u201cO LORD, do not punish me in anger, do not chastise me in fury\u201d (6:2).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The natural, expected result<\/em>. According to verses 15-17, the downfall of the wicked is the most natural outcome.
