David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When and Why:<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David sings to God concerning Cush, a Benjaminite. Cush was likely another partisan of Saul against David. David wrote this psalm to thank God for saving him from Saul.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Genre: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psalm of Individual Lament&#8211;This psalm was written from the perspective of the individual worshiper, who cries out to God in his time of need. It is characterized as an address to God involving a complaint, followed by a request and ending with an expression of trust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chapter Summary:<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King David gives thanks for having been saved from his enemies who lurk to destroy him. It may seem that this righteous man is helpless against those who rise up against him, but he dare not despair. With God\u2019s mercy, the wicked will ultimately fall victim to their own schemes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This psalm consists of eighteen verses, subdivided into seven parts.\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verse 1 serves as a heading.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 2 &amp; 3, King David turns to God and pleads for deliverance. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 4-6, he takes an oath condemning himself if he has indeed done wrong.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 7 &amp; 8, he calls out to God to rise up against his enemies.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verse 9 &amp; 10, the Psalmist publicly calls on God to reveal His righteousness. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 11-14, he expresses his confidence in God\u2019s justice.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 15-17, he expresses his faith that the wicked will be destroyed by their own mischief.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verse 19, he concludes by taking upon himself to thank God for his deliverance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shimush Tehillim-When to Say This Psalm<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For protection against enemies&#8211;Verse 1 refers to the lament David expressed after Saul\u2019s death.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a successful judgement&#8211;Verse 2 states: \u201cdeliver me from all my pursuers and rescue me.\u201d Further, in verse 18, David thanks God for a good outcome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excerpted from <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Your Lips To God\u2019s Ears<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by Reuben Ebrahimoff available on Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":79908,"id":79908,"title":"psalms -
