  1. For the leader; with instrumental music on the <\/span>sheminit<\/span><\/em>. These are musical terms. Is it hinting at an octave (<\/span>sheminit <\/span><\/em>– <\/span><\/i>\u201ceighth\u201d)? Or is it referring to an instrument with 8\u00a0 strings?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Tachanun<\/em> (\u201cbeseeching\u201d). The prayers of beseechment (<\/span>tachanun<\/span><\/em>) are part of the official Tachanun prayer said many mornings.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Closeness<\/em>. From out of the distress, and the sense that God\u2019s judgement is pursuing him, the psalmist feels close enough to engage in negotiation about transforming the judgement to mercy. And he is convincing that it will be of benefit to both sides (verse 6).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. A sea of tears<\/em>.The psalmic version of \u201cA Sea of Tears\u201d is verses 7-8.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The reversal<\/em>. The vocabulary at the beginning and end of the psalm tell the tale of the reversal of fortunes. The psalm begins with the plea \u201cHave mercy on me, O LORD, for I languish; heal me, O LORD, for my bones shake with terror\u201d (verse 3). It ends with the expression of confidence: \u201cThe LORD heeds my plea,\u201d and that \u201cAll my enemies will be frustrated and stricken with terror; they will turn back in an instant, frustrated\u201d (10-11).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
