  1. Morning prayer<\/em>. The previous psalm was an evening prayer. Today\u2019s psalm is a morning prayer: \u201cHear my voice, O LORD, at daybreak; at daybreak I plead before You, and wait\u201d (verse 4). In both psalms there is a confrontation with evil. Does that play out differently in the morning vs in the evening?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. 50 Shades (or less<\/em>). The synonymous words in the psalm express a range of shades of meaning. Prayer is: \u201cspeech, utterance, cry;\u201d hearing the pray-er means \u201cgive ear, consider, heed.\u201d And the most colorful are the sinners: \u201cwickedness, evil, wanton, evil-doers, speakers of lies, murderous, deceitful men…\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Evil in speech<\/em>. The strength of the evil in this psalm is primarily in their mouths. They speak lies and deceit, their guile is murderous (verse 7). Words can have a fatal power. The punishment as well, that the psalmist demands for the wicked, is in words: \u201clet them fall by their own devices\u201d (verse 11), let their own false advice be their undoing.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The flavor of favor<\/em>. That\u2019s how verse 13 describes the divine blessing \u201cFor You surely bless the righteous man, O LORD, encompassing him with favor like a shield.\u201d Does God shield the righteous with God\u2019s favor, or does God grant people favor that for them is like a shield?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
