  1. Evening prayer.<\/em> In verse 5 the psalmist wishes a good night to his enemies, in words that are quoted in the prayer said upon going to sleep: \u201cSo tremble, and sin no more; ponder it on your bed, and sigh.\u201d In verse 9, he wishes himself \u201cSafe and sound, I lie down and sleep.\u201d The two verses create the tone of an evening prayer. Tomorrow – expect a morning prayer.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Discrimination<\/em> (\u201csingles out\u201d). Or perhaps is it affirmative action? See verse 4.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The light of your face<\/em>. The request for God\u2019s blessing, in the words: \u201cBestow Your favor on us, O LORD\u201d (verse 7 – \u201cfavor,\u201d literally \u201cthe light of your face\u201d), is reminiscent of the priestly blessing in Numbers 6, \u201cThe LORD deal kindly and graciously with you! The LORD bestow His favor upon you and grant you peace!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Happy together – or separately<\/em>? Is the happiness in the heart of the psalmist in verse 8 a result of participating in the shared joy at the abundance of grain and wine of the community? Or is it a separate happiness: whereas they are experiencing an external, material joy – he is \u201chappy in his heart\u201d? Both interpretations are possible. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
