An identical expression, \u201cA pronouncement\u00a0 (or \u201coracle\u201d) &#8212; the word of the Lord\u201d [<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">massa\u2019 devar Ha-Shem<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">] is found at the beginnings of Chapters 9 and 12 in the Book of Zechariah suggesting that the Book of Malachi, which concludes the Biblical collection of the Twelve \u201cMinor\u201d Prophets, should perhaps be seen as an appendix to the Book of Zechariah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verse 11, records the memorable expression: \u201cFor from where the sun rises to where it sets My name is honored among the nations. And everywhere incense and pure sacrifice are offered to My name. For My name is honored among the nations\u2014said the Lord of Hosts\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talmud Bavli Menahot 110a employs this verse in a discussion of the extent of the knowledge of God. From Tyre to Carthage the nations know Israel and their Father who is in heaven. But, from Tyre westwards and from Carthage eastwards the nations know neither Israel nor their Father Who is in heaven. However, is it not written: \u201c\u201cFor from where the sun rises to where it sets My name is honored among the nations\u2026\u201d? Indeed the nations call our God \u201cthe God of God \u2013 <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Ela\u2019 de-\u2018Elaha<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cAnd everywhere incense and pure sacrifice are offered to My name.\u201d Is it indeed possible that \u201ceverywhere\u201d sacrifices are offered to God [i.e. not only in the Temple in Jerusalem]?! To resolve this apparent difficulty, the expression \u201ceverywhere\u201d is interpreted to refer to the Torah scholars [<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">talmidey hakhamim<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">] who devote themselves to the study of the Torah \u201ceverywhere\u201d they are located. And I, God, account it for them as though, in their study of Torah, they are burning incense and offering up sacrifices to My name! \u201cAnd pure sacrifice<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This refers to one who studies Torah in purity by devoting himself to the study of Torah and afterwards marrying a wife [so that he will not be disturbed by impure thoughts].<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disciple of Rashi, Rabbi Simhah ben Samuel of Vitry, writes in his Halakhic and Liturgical compendium,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sefaria.org.il\/Machzor_Vitry%2C_Laws_of_Shacharit.10?lang=bi\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Machzor Vitry, Laws of Shacharit 10<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that there are four customary \u201cbows\u201d [<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">keri\u2019ot<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">] during in the recitation of the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kaddish<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When saying \u201cExalted and hallowed be His great Name <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><\/i><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yitgadal ve-yitkadash shmei raba<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, when saying \u201cSoon \u2013 <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ba-\u2018Agala<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, when saying \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yitbarakh<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 Blessed\u201d, and finally when saying \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oseh shalom bi-mromav<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 He makes peace in His high places\u201d. And these four \u201cbows\u201d are in reference to the four times the \u201cname of God\u201d is mentioned in a single verse: \u201c\u201cFor from where the sun rises to where it sets, My name (1) is honored among the nations, and everywhere incense and pure sacrifice are offered to My name (2). For My name (3) is honored among the nations\u2014said the Lord [\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Ha-Shem<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 the ineffable Name
