But as rude tempests blow <br \/>\nMe far away from land, the ocean groans<br \/>\nIn desperation and each wave bemoans<br \/>\nIts fate, battered back-and-forth, to-and-fro.<\/p>\n<p>No matter where I look, no island shows<br \/>\nItself \u2014 as if to mock me as I cope<br \/>\nWith learning that this voyage is about<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">What every albatross and sea-gull knows \u2014 <br \/>\nHow vast the sea, how limited our scope,<br \/>\nHow weak our faith when tortured by our doubt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 270px;\">\nII.<\/p>\n<p>Lost in the archipelago of doubt,<br \/>\nAdrift upon a raft, I do not know<br \/>\nWhen I will disembark, or where I go \u2014 <br \/>\nWithout a sail to catch the wind \u2014 without<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A pair of oars to turn the raft about \u2014 <br \/>\nWithout a navigator&#8217;s chart to show <br \/>\nMe where the ocean&#8217;s undercurrents flow \u2014<br \/>\nWithout a helm \u2014 without the strength to shout \u2014<\/p>\n<p>The waves are tossing wildly for I float<br \/>\nUpon a faithless sea whose undertow <br \/>\nIs death.
