He composed many religious works, and also excelled in his writing for theater and opera. He set Psalm 3 (in Latin) to music in the style of a motet, influenced by the Italian music of the Renaissance and the Baroque.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His choice of using Latin and not English aroused questions among researchers regarding the conditions of its composition and performance. The work is considered daring for its time, and very faithful to the Latin version, which in itself hews very close to the original.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Purcell divides the work into verses, part of which are designated for the chorus, and part for the bass soloist, because after all, the psalm is a prayer of a single individual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the Italian style (madrigals and opera) Purcell\u2019s music is very exciting and interprets the words with maximal faithfulness to the original.
