He established the first Hebrew printing press in Venice, where, in 1517, he published his first rabbinic Bible\u2014a Bible with rabbinic commentaries printed around the biblical text. It was criticized, however, for containing numerous errors. In response, Bomberg hired Jacob ben \u1e24ayyim, a Jewish scholar of the Masorah, to edit a second rabbinic Bible, represented here. This edition is known as a\u00a0<em>Miqra\u2019ot Gedolot<\/em>\u00a0(Large Scriptures) originally because of the large size of the folio. However, since the late 19th century, this term has come to encompass all rabbinic Bibles. Due to the efforts of Jacob ben \u1e24ayyim this edition became the first printed version of the Hebrew Bible to contain the entire Masorah along with the Tanakh, Targumim, and rabbinic commentaries. As a result, it became the basis for many subsequent editions of the Bible.
