David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>When &amp; Why<\/em>:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David might have written this psalm at the time of his inauguration, encouraging the Israelites to respect the new king, who is God\u2019s anointed one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Genre<\/em>:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psalm of Royalty &#8211; This psalm describes how God reigns supreme. It focuses on the human king of Israel, or upon God as king of Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Chapter Summary<\/em>:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This psalm speaks of the suffering that befell the author, symbolizing and anticipating the sufferings of both the individual Jew and the Jewish People throughout the generations. It seeks to inspire the Jew with hope and strength during the long exile, until the arrival of the Mashiach (Messiah).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This psalm consists of twelve verses, subdivided into four parts.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 1-3, the nations of the world shout out against God and his anointed.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 4-6, God speaks to the nations.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 7-9, the psalmist speaks of and relates God\u2019s words to him.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In verses 10-12, the psalmist himself addresses the nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Shimush Tehillim-When to Say This Psalm<\/em>:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a Headache&#8211;Verse 9 refers to \u201cBreak them with a rod of iron, as a potter\u2019s vessel, shatter them.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a Stormy Sea&#8211;Verse 12 exhorts the reader to \u201cDo homage in purity [of heart], lest He be angry and you will be lost on your way, for His wrath is kindled suddenly; fortunate are all who take refuge in Him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Biblical Places<\/em>:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u05e6\u05d9\u05d5\u05df-Zion-often used as a synonym for Jerusalem. The term Zion originally referred only to the area where a Jebbusite fortress once stood, also the location of the City of David.
