He grew up in the Russian Orthodox Church, and the music of the liturgy, the voices and the bells, left their mark upon him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His large choral works were written in 1913, and are considered his greatest works. \u201cThe All-Night Vigil\u201d (which in the Jewish tradition is seder night) is a central occasion in the Russian Church, wherein the three great night time prayers join together &#8211; vespers (the evening prayer), the midnight prayer, and the dawn prayer.
