  1. The memory of the earthquake.<\/em> Verse 5 describes the power of God\u2019s announced actions: \u201cAnd the Valley in the Hills shall be stopped up…as it was stopped up as a result of the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah.\u201d The opening to the book of Amos also mentions the earthquake as part of the dating of the beginning of Amos\u2019 prophecies: \u201cTwo years before the earthquake\u201d (Amos 1).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Darkness on the day of the LORD<\/em>. Amos also said, 41 chapters ago, \u201cAh, you who wish For the day of the LORD! Why should you want The day of the LORD? It shall be darkness, not light!\u201d (Amos 5:18). Zechariah\u2019s day of the LORD is also darkness, but after that will come a period of hope, full of light and living waters.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Egypt is an exception<\/em>. Whoever does not come to Jerusalem, will not receive rainfall. But Egypt, if they don\u2019t come, won\u2019t be hurt by that threat, since they have the Nile (verse 18).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. GI pots<\/em>.When the whole world comes to Jerusalem, there has to be a special recruitment effort: \u201cindeed, every metal pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holy to the LORD of Hosts. And all those who sacrifice shall come and take of these to boil [their sacrificial meat] in\u201d (verse 21).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Holiness and commerce<\/em>. In Zechariah\u2019s House of God \u201cthere shall be no more traders\u201d (verse 21). Why? Perhaps because commerce on Temple grounds is unseemly, or perhaps because nothing shall be lacking, and so there will be need to buy anything.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Chazak<\/em>!
