In 10:3, the prophet quoted God saying: \u201cMy anger is roused against the shepherds,\u201d and this pastoral theme is continued in the current chapter, commencing with \u201c<\/span>Thus said my God the LORD: Tend the sheep meant for slaughter\u201d (11:4).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Radak had this to say by way of explanation:<\/span><\/p>\n

Most exegetes have referred this portion to the past, [saying that God] told the prophet to prophesy about what would occur to Israel <\/span>until<\/span><\/i> their exile. Others assign it to the Second Temple. They [Israel] are called \u201csheep meant for the slaughter\u201d because they are constantly susceptible to being killed by their enemies whenever they transgress the commandments of the Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is on the following verse, however, that Radak offered a most poignant observation. The verse reads: \u201cWhose buyers will slaughter them with impunity, whose seller will say, Praised be the LORD! I\u2019ll get rich, and whose shepherd will not pity them.\u201d His commentary:<\/span><\/p>\n

[The seller] will say \u201cPraise be the Lord\u201d that I have grown rich from the sale of these captives. When the wicked seller says: \u201cPraise God,\u201d it is because he thinks that it is His will that this be done, just as Sennacherib said: \u201cCould I have risen against this land to destroy it if not for God?\u201d (2 Kings 18:25). Alternately, we can note that people are accustomed to praise God for any profit they earn, whether just or unjust. Of such, the Sages said: \u201cEven a thief at the entrance to his underground [tunnel] will call out to God.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Radak\u2019s observation here, suggest a novel interpretation on Psalms 10:3, which states: \u201cThe wicked crows about his unbridled lusts, and the grasping man \u2018reviles\u2019 and scorns the Lord\u201d (<\/span>u-botze`a beireikh ni\u2019etz ha-shem<\/span><\/em>). I would keep the literal meaning of <\/span>beireikh<\/span><\/em> as to bless or praise (rather than as a euphemism for curse or revile, as translated here). Since <\/span>betza<\/span><\/em>`<\/em>, as a noun, means fraud, I would translate the phrase as: \u201cWhen a fraudster praises God, it is an act of
