  1. Horses at beginning and end<\/em>. There is a great deal of similarity between the vision of horses that opened the scroll of visions in chapter 1, and the vision of the chariots. In both visions, the prophet is a witness to the messengers of God on earth. The similarities also sharpen the differences, for in the vision of the horses the message of the returning messengers was \u201call the earth dwelling in tranquility\u201d (Zech 1:11).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Riddles and solutions<\/em>. There are internal connections between the visions in Zechariah, which combine to help solve the riddles. The vision of the chariots for instance, helps to understand the number 4 that appeared in the vision of the horses in chapter 1, as the four corners of the earth.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The testimony is building up<\/em>. The story of the crowns and the prophecy to Joshua about Tzemach, join the testimonies from previous chapters about the difficulties of the leadership in Jerusalem during the period of the return to Zion. Is Zerrubbabel the long-awaited Tzemach, or will Tzemach replace him? What is meant to occur between the two leaders? Why do each receive a message that essentially say to make room for the other. And mainly, the prophecy that in the future \u201charmonious understanding shall prevail between them\u201d seems to imply that right now the situation is otherwise.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Reality or fantasy<\/em>. Was the vision of the crowns a real symbolic action, or an imagined one? On the one hand, the people mentioned are real, and it includes the detail that \u201cThe crowns shall remain in the Temple of the LORD as a memorial\u201d (verse 14). On the other hand, it\u2019s not clear whether Zechariah was indeed permitted, either as prophet or priest, to take silver and gold and prepare from them crowns such as these. Both approaches are represented in the commentaries.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Far and near<\/em>. The story of the crowns and the prophecy that accompanies it, creates the impression of something about to happen, and of the immediate reconstruction of the Temple, with local manpower. The prophecy in verse 15 creates a more distant horizon, both geographically and chronologically: \u201cMen from far away shall come and take part in the building of the Temple of the LORD.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
