  1. A hiding place<\/em>. In the previous chapter, Zephaniah emphasized that on the Day of the LORD, sinners won\u2019t be able to hide and avoid the consequences. God will seek them out. Whoever really wants to \u201chide\u201d and be saved, is advised to follow the guidance in verse 3, and thus find shelter: \u201cSeek the LORD, All you humble of the land Who have fulfilled His law; Seek righteousness, Seek humility. Perhaps you will find shelter On the day of the LORD\u2019s anger.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Prophecies to the nations<\/em>. Just like other prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel) Zephaniah has a special section addressed to the nations – it\u2019s just that he\u2019s more concise. 11 verses for the rest of the world.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The new settlers.<\/em> Who inherited Assyria after it was destroyed? \u201cFlocks\u201d lie down there, and all sorts of wild birds make their nest in its ruins: \u201cIn it flocks shall lie down, Every species of beast, While jackdaws and owls roost on its capitals, The great owl hoots in the window, And the raven [croaks] on the threshold. For he has stripped its cedarwork bare\u201d (verse 14). This description isn\u2019t just a nature film, but is also an abject lesson in the results of arrogance: \u201cIs this the gay city That dwelt secure, That thought in her heart, \u201cI am, and there is none but me\u201d? Alas, she is become a waste, A lair of wild beasts! Everyone who passes by her Hisses and gestures with his hand\u201d (verse 15).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
